Just spotted this one at CWS Auctions, the company that runs probate auctions in L.A. County. It's parked at Van Nuys and appears to have been idle for some time. No logbooks, unfortunately:

(All photos via cwsauctions.com)

Note to Scott: Per CWS, "Aircraft Plaque Reads: U.S. Navy N.A.S. Pensacola, Acceptance Date 11-2-43" - info for the Registry. September 12 is the viewing date; viewers must make an appointment with Sean Fraley at sfraley@cwsams.com (very nice guy; I used to buy stuff at his auctions every month).

Happy bidding! (I bet our friend bdk will be checking it out  )

Might be an interesting bird. Wonder what it's history is. Has to be a heavy airplane compared to others....6 radios, plus a steep O2 bottle and a fairly late style O2 regulator. Doesn't look like it's been outdoors for a lot of it's history.

Might just do that!

Restricted category for aerial surveying but it can be recertified to standard as part of the restoration. Pretty much needs everything and the attach angles may need to be replaced as well.

Owned by Los Angeles County now it seems, triennial good until July 2022:

I wonder if RESCUE stenciled on the back is a call for help?

I was wondering about the "Rescue" marking too; maybe the owner was a volunteer spotter for the Civil Air Patrol or Forest Service, or it might have worn those markings in the USN? Wasn't there some L.A.-based group of pilots that volunteered for local SAR missions?

Well at least she seems to be a complete example. I've never seen that windscreen on a T6 before. Try to streamline her to race? :D

No, I’m out of town at the moment unfortunately, plus I don’t need a second T-6 project!

But BDK this is not just any old run of the mill T-6 project. This is an SNJ!

Hopefully the new buyer inspected it carefully for corrosion. Might have been a good buy, maybe not.

$61,600 + $9,240 buyers premium + $5,852 = $76,692 for a project. Need a complete going over and yes, there is corrosion. $300k ground up resto?
