If you haven't watched any of the new
Fallout television series, the first two episodes feature two aviation real life related locations quite prominently. For those unfamiliar, the show is based on a video game franchise of the same name that takes place a few hundred years after a global nuclear war, so it required sets that appeared run down or abandoned. For episode 1, the unrestored, but still standing barracks Wendover Air Force Base were perfect for the training scenes of the semi-militaristic faction called the Brotherhood of Steel. (Plus the "Vertibirds" use some authentic looking instrument panels. Also, keep in mind, this is the same franchise that had the
restoration of the Lake Mead B-29 as a plot point in one of the games.) In episode 2, through some camera trickery, Wade's Salvage in New Jersey is used as the location for a post-apocalyptic settlement.
To be clear, if you're just interested in aviation history, this is not the show for you as it quickly leaves the relevant settings behind in later episodes. However, it is pretty cool to see these locations in a studio production.
