I asked Evan once, and he said they have a FW-190 project. He said it's rough, but a good project. I'm guessing this may be it.

A vey interesting find indeed! I hope this Fw 190 gets restored to fly again! Fagen Fighters appear to have some more potential restoration projects available on their restorations website, such as a B-17 (43-38978), a P-39, and a P-40B/C Tomahawk (identities unspecified), as well as two active projects (P-51D Jane VI and a P-40E). Does anyone know what the identities of the P-39 and P-40B/C could be?

Info from elsewhere says Fw-190F-8 'Jabo' Wk. Nr. 581808, 1./SG-5 Q9+BT and flying from Alakurtti, Finland. Lost on 4-August-1944 and downed by Soviet Hurricanes. Pilot Alfred Kruppa parachuted out but was KIA. The wreckage was recovered in 2019 near the town of Priozersk, Russia.

One has to wonder about restoration costs?
I'm sure someone has the drawings, jigs, fixtures and materials necessary to do a complete rebuild.
But they are probably not as easy to source as parts and airframe assemblies for more common types.

And if it does become a flyer, how much will be new?

I figure if you wanted my opinion on items unrelated to this forum, you'd ask for it.

All of that currently exists. There is an individual who is currently 3D CAD rendering every single part for the FW-190, Me-109, and others, including their engines. Soon, any of those aircraft will be able to be reproduced from scratch, with original engines. Technology is a wonderful thing, and it will allow many extinct or ultra-rare types to take flight in the future.

All that is needed is a boatload of money.


Probably a lot, but this aircraft is not unique from that perspective. There are many warbirds flying today that have very, very few original parts. In my mind, that doesn't matter at all. I don't care what you call it - restoration, replica, reproduction, recreation, etc., I want to see rare Axis aircraft fly with original engines.

How much money will it take?
That's easy.
All of it

The B-17 sounds like it's a small amount of wreckage and paperwork. I don't think it's a viable restoration candidate. The P-51D doesn't appear to have been worked on since arriving at the museum. The P-40 was put on hold to finish the Helldiver, which should fly shortly. They do have other projects waiting as well, the P-51B and TBM come to mind.

Dave Goss of Goss Hawk Unlimited has extensive experience working and restoring on Fw-190s, in addition he has the jigs, drawings, etc. from Flug Werk

How many big time collectors/owners are there now left with a bottomless pit of money and the desire to take this on, and still young enough that they might actually see it finished..........?

On that basis, it seems strong money in the circumstances.

Interesting though, that this was recovered as late as 2019....!
Given the current situation, was/is this going to be the last warbird recovery to ever come out of Russia?
