I saw this on the UK Key publishing (FlyPast) forum... The BBC has reported that the remains of 8 Russian Hurricanes have been found buried in Ukraine. A later post said they were digging for unexploded bombs when the found them...(which answered my question with all their troubles were they really looking for old aircraft?)
Apparently, they were U.S. Lend Lease, British-built aircraft paid for by the U.S.. Following the policy of "destroy, return or pay for them", the USSR, stripped them and buried them.
They hope to rebuild one for display, and hopefully the other parts (or at least dataplates) can be used to expand the world's Hurricane population.
