I've seen a March 2022 Facebook post and other similar dated blurb here and there about the first weekend of October being the Warbirds Over the Beach airshow. It is on their events calendar, but it seems dated and can't find much other information. Is it really happening?

Glad to hear the event is on! I was also getting a little worried without any further details released yet. I have my hotel booked and time off approved. Looking forward to returning to Virginia Beach - I haven't been in about 10 years!

Per an email I got from the museum today, this has been "postponed" (the word they're looking for is canceled) and replaced with a new "Tanks and Tracks" event.

Guess I'll be canceling my reservations and finding something else to do that weekend.

As they say on the ship....."Belay my last"

Postponed indeed. Very disappointing. :(

Many issues in play here - more to follow I'm sure.

Glad to know now rather than after driving a few days through several states... Looking forward to 2023!

Yeah, this is a massive disappointment for me. I've had two events I normally attend get canceled, another got rained out, and I missed yet another due to illness on top of this. Looks like my spring trip to Shaw and the four days I spent at Oshkosh will be about it for me this year unless I can make it to Tri-State's event at the end of September. Ugh.

More importantly though, I hope everything is ok at the museum. I know the last few years have been tough on a lot of organizations.

I was saddened to hear this. I was originally supposed to attend this airshow, the first in almost five years for me, and hang out with Jon Brawner. With his passing I was considering not attending. Now the decision is no longer in question.

Scott touched on this, but I want to elaborate a little bit... Jon was a good friend. We'd chat several times a week - he'd send pics of what he was working on, or airborne pics just to tease me. His sudden passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of his friends and family, and operationally, it's put the Museum in a tough spot - they had a tremendous show load this year, and they need time to ensure all the aircraft are properly maintained. Because there was a big question mark over what they could get done in the short time before the show, the Museum made the decision to retool the fall show to focus on ground vehicles; they proved to be very popular at last year's show, and there are going to be quite a few out at the airfield doing demonstrations. This will allow them to take the necessary time to get the aircraft through their maintenance intervals, to ensure they're in perfect condition for the Warbirds show when it's rescheduled.

Speaking for the reenactors and living history groups, we support the Museum 100% in their decision and will be there in force to help make this the best show it can be.

And on a personal note... I really, really miss Jon. It's been tough to deal with his loss.

Lynn

The museum family is mourning the sudden loss of our friend and aircraft maintainer Jon Brawner, who flew west today. Many of you knew Jon from his many years dedicated to the warbird community and making it his life's work to "keep them flying." Jon's talent extended beyond his mechanical skills with a photographer's eye, a comedian/prankster at heart and an all around good guy. Jon was a guy you could always count on, please help us express condolences to his family and share your favorite memories of Jon in the comments.

I haven't found any information about any dates for 2023. Anyone get a whiff of any rumors or better?

I get the e-newsletter from the museum and there hasn't been anything in that about Warbirds Over The Beach yet.
