It has been awhile since I have seen any current information on how many current P-38's are under active restoration to fly. The information I have may be out of date, but I will post it anyway.

1. In Australia there a 3 P-38's being worked on with one to fly this Im pretty sure of.

2. In the United States P-38H 42-66534 under restoration not sure about this one

3. P-38J 42-103988 Jardiine I think located at Ezell Aviation is this the one John Terrell that is pretty far along?

4. The Ex Bruce Pruett P-38 that Jeff Ethall lost his life in. I believe is in storage at Air Corp Aviation might be a candidate somewhere down the line to be restored.

As always I welcome any and all feedback from fellow Wixer's on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Wasn't the partially restored Flying Heritage Collection bird recently put up for sale?

I couldn't find a thread on it, but it appears that most of the center section is done

The FHC P-38 that you mentioned your correct the Center Section is either done, or well underway to being done. However it and all other FHC aircraft that were on the market for sale HAVE ALL BEEN PULLED OFF. No I don't know why.

There are two P-38J restoration projects at Ezell, formerly at Westpac, which were owned by the late Paul Allen/Vulcan/FHCAM. One is the ex-CAF P-38J "Scatterbrain Kid", USAAF Serial No. 42-104088, which has 9th Air Force combat history, that has been partially restored to-date and is the one that was recently listed for sale for a short time. The other one, the Pacific Theatre combat-vet P-38J "Jandina III", USAAF Serial No. 42-103988, was in an advanced state of completion as of mid 2020.

I've been really looking forward to seeing an AirCorps Aviation restored/rebuilt P-38.

It looks as though there was a legal dispute between Vulcan (FHCAM) and Westpac going on at the time.

Wonder if they're going to have to close down their shop or just downsize.

The court filing and relocation of the Allen P-38 projects occurred back in 2017. Since then, as part of the National Museum of World War II Aviation, other projects have been underway in the WestPac hangar, including restoring Jim Slattery's SB2C-1A Helldiver, and they will soon be starting the restoration/rebuild of one of the razorback P-47's that they have had in their inventory. Work there is of course constant in the maintenance of the museum's large collection of flying warbirds, which includes the Slattery-owned aircraft, as well as work on other client aircraft, such as Jim Tobul's F4U-4.
