Wonder why the tail #'s ended up being cockeyed.

North American P-51D-5-NA Mustang 44-13325 (336th FS, 4th FG, 8th AF, "Rosie's Beau") crashed near Aachen, Germany after engine caught fire Mar 26, 1945.
Pilot bailed out but was killed when his parachute struck the tail of his aircraft. Sad outcome. RIP

Thanks for sharing those nice pictures.

However, 44-13325 was not lost on March 26th, as those pictures clearly show the buzz codes under the left wing that were adopted post war.

Earl Hustwit was lost flying 44-72411, from that page

I too noticed the underwing letters. Hmmm. Baughers database is where I located the data.

Interesting set of shutters on the underside of the nose just forward of the wing.

Never saw that before.

An access panel has been removed allowing you to see part of the induction trunk.

Makes sense. Though it looks like the trunk extends beyond the lines of the nose.

I think the serial number position on the tail is interesting. I've never seen it angled like that.

No shutters, just stiffeners on the outside of the duct.

Baughers list is a great source of information, but I've found a few mistakes in there. That's not a dig at him, he's done a great job compiling a lot of information It makes sense with as large as that list is, there's bound to be a few mistakes here and there.
