Warbird Information Exchange

For those of you that keep track of such things, this organization has a new name and a new website. Its now called the Travis AFB Aviation Museum www.travisafbaviationmuseum.org It looks like they have a good collection of aircraft and other displays. Has anyone ever been there?

Haven't been there, but with a C-5 and C-133, it looks well worth a stop.

Yes I have been there, although it has been a few years. A small museum commemorating the history and life of crews at Travis (uniforms, barracks display, story boards, etc) and a good collection of aircraft mostly outside. There have been various fits and starts of the past 20 years or so to move the museum to a more accessible location, not requiring base access, and some changing the focus from being a broad collection of miscellaneous aircraft to a more focused "heritage center" focused on the history and aircraft with a Travis connection (ie: smaller collection) to allow more focus on a few aircraft with limited funds and limited volunteers. Thus the name change. The C-141 (and I now believe the C-5) are more like gate guards a few blocks away from the museum.

Worth the visit, even more so if you have a DoD id card and get on base without the hassle of reservation and a visitors pass.
