Hello, has anyone accessed the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola with a D.O.D. pass?
I am curious if the pass holder (who can escort up to two vehicles and 15 people on base) needs to actually stay with the party they escort on to the museum entrance, and through the museum.
Appreciate any information from anyone that has been through the drill.
~Thanks
Jim

My wife and I went there a few years ago, don't recall the exact year but it wasn't too long ago. There's a gate just west of the museum and you pretty much drive into there and then right back the way you came. You pass the gates of a few aircraft areas and flightlines, but it's a straight shot to the museum.
I didn't use my ancient Army IRR card, I think we just went to the gate and said where we were going and were let through. The museum was filled with the public so it clearly wasn't tough to get there. Now, getting to the rest of the post from there, yeah, I think that requires a DoD pass.

The NNAM website says only DoD card holders are allowed to the museum at the current time. Didn't realize DoD pass holders were immune.

I hadn't even thought of the pandemic factoring in this question. Like many (or most) of the rest of you, I haven't gone more than about 100 miles in any direction from home since last year, so hitting a place like this simply doesn't factor into any short or long term thinking.

No, but someone with a DoD cars is far more likely to have gotten some kind of testing for it than a random member of the public (heck, I don't know of a single person who has actually been tested for COVID other than the three I know who actually had COVID and they were only tested to confirm what they were sick with, thankfully none had it too bad).
I can't blame them for restricting access to the base for the duration.

Weren't the restrictions put in place after the shooting, well before the pandemic?

You are correct. The restriction to DoD ID Cardholders of visitors to the museum that continues for the present was put in place for Security following the foreign Aviation Student terrorist shooting at NAS Pensacola and had nothing to do with COVID-19.
