Hi guys,

I just wanted to get your thoughts and opinions on whether Airventure could take place next year? I know there is a lot of uncertainty about US airshows from March-May time next year but could it stretch to July and the biggest airshow gathering at Oshkosh? I must admit I’m not totally clued up on how America is looking at this moment during the pandemic but with the vaccination still not approved, is it reasonable to assume it’s still very much uncertain if we have an Airventure next year?

The viability of Airventure is likely rooted in the competence of the vaccine distribution plan and the behavior of people before and immediately after they are vaccinated. Your confidence level in those two things may vary.

Take this for what it's worth:

Quote:
November 19, 2020 – At last week's fall meeting – held in a virtual format – the EAA board of directors supported the ongoing planning efforts for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021, which will be held July 26-August 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Among those preparations are incorporating best practices for large public events that can be incorporated at Oshkosh next year.

"There will be AirVenture in 2021, as it is so important for all of us in every segment of the aviation community," said Jack J. Pelton, EAA CEO and Chairman of the Board. "We have heard from many, many EAA members and others who have pent-up enthusiasm to be back on the flightline at Oshkosh. While it's still too early to know exactly what everything will look like for the event, it's important to have AirVenture in 2021 – which, coincidentally, is the 100th anniversary of the birth of EAA founder Paul Poberezny."

Advance sales for admissions, camping, and other areas are currently open at the AirVenture website. In addition, free youth admission, generously supported in part by Boeing, will be continued in 2021, giving more families and young people the opportunity to fully enjoy the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration.

I would guess that absent government mandate or a regulation they can't meet and/or is totally impractical, Airventure will happen in some form.

It's gping to have to happen. The EAa used to have five events a year. The now only have the national convention in Oshkosh. They should plan on a smaller event maybe reminiscent of the size they were in the 1970's. Maybe less international attendance. The EAa is one of those organizations that can't survive if they stay shuttered year after year. That being said, they are very well organized, have a strong membership and other revenue sources, and have contingency planning in place.

You may be surprised. A lot of people are stir crazy and ready to go somewhere. AV 2021 may see huge domestic and Canadian attendance because of that.

I would love to think that its on and that flying to America will be allowed again. I've gone as far as booking refundable accommodation, but am holding off on flights until the vaccine is having an effect and there is a little more stability in the world.

Wisconsin has been one of the more open states with few political restrictions compared to most others.

Yet they haven't allowed any fans in the football stadiums to date. My family members that live near Milwaukee don't have very positive things to say about the current situation. Hope it improves drastically by July.
