More info here, they're apparently still accepting donations for the restoration:

That airplane has had some of the best civilian paint schemes. The Greenpeace scheme was applied by Lufthansa and was superbly done. A full “clipper bow” airplane that also had done survey work. I almost got to fly 423RSe in 1997 sort of...the German group that owned it bought her after failing to register CF-PIU to their satisfaction. They sold the 6A and I got to work on PiU in Galesburg IL for a while, then flew her home to California. After that they wanted the group I worked for to fly in support of Greenpeace. That was during the time of the Rainbow Warrior ship bombing and other nefarious acts perpetrated against the organization, so we were concerned for the safety of the plane. Never came to pass, but would have been fun. While they were proud of the paint I felt if we were going to snoop over the water a more authentic patrol scheme of haze blue would add to our survival and stealth. Another what if of life.

A solid PBY-5A with wartime service. This one deserves a good restoration in VPB-73 colors.

A pretty cool pic of it here with a unique antennae array for mineral ops.
