Breaking news in Phoenix right now. No ID....does not look good. I believe it was flying out of Stellar (P19).

I'm guessing it was Big Beautiful Doll based on the partial serial in this shot...

Nearby homeowners described engine sputtering after several diving maneuvers.

I wouldn't put much stock into the sputtering comments just yet. He may have pulled the power back, and the witnesses actually heard the Merlin popping instead of sputtering. All Merlins snap, crackle, and pop loudly when you pull the power off.

What a sad incident. Condolences to the pilot and passengers family and friends.

I fondly remember seeing this Mustang at a show in NY years ago. Awesome paint scheme.

The pilot killed in this accident has been identified in the press, but his passenger has not. The passenger is a friend to many, and I am asking everyone to please not identify him here at this time. We are all reaching out to each other to pass this tragic news as gently as we can. Please just give us a day or so. Condolences to both families and to their many friends.

Thanks,

Craig

Yes, I saw that his name has been in the press. Thanks to all for your consideration. Our friend Jerry O'Neill will be posting photos and other information on WIX soon. Blue Skies, Nick.
