ammo box, P-36? P-40B?

Wed Apr 26, 2017 9:06 am

i got a whole bunch of P-40 ammunition boxes, most are marked P-40 D/E/F or Curtiss H87A2&3 (P-40D) but i have a small one missing a label, it looks like it would be from a nose gun because of the smaller capacity, can anyone ID this?

Hi Fifty Cal. The small box you have is one of the two boxes that feed the inboard gun on a P40 D/E etc. P36 and P40B/C ammo boxes are quite different.

are you sure? the double sized boxes are 280 rounds for the wings and the singles are 155 rounds, so one wing gun has a tiny capacity (doubt it would fit 40 rounds)?, i thought that they would have an equal capacity.

Fiftycal, you should get the prints and manuals for the P-40, they have a lot of info.
