CAF AN-2 Mishap...All onboard OK

Didn't see this already mentioned...(happened on Friday 6th April 2016)

It appears that the CAF AN-2 had an engine out issue, and came up short of runway and flipped.
Thankfully, press reporting 2 persons on board are OK.

Preliminary reports state gear snagged wires after engine quit causing them to shear off and the plane to flip. Both individuals are alright.

They'll flip it upright, bang out the dents on the cowling and it'll be fine. :wink:

One of the few times that the sarcastic quote "That'll buff right out" might actually hold a bit of truth in it.

It's surely to be a write off. The market has been weak on those. $25k to $1ook tops. Saw a non flyer for $18k. The killer is the extensive amount of fabric work on those wings once they have to be re-done. Parts are readily available in Eastern Europe and many other places.
That one could be rebuilt, it would take someone with skills and a labor of love. Cheaper to buy another in eastern Europe. There are several countries that use them in their militaries, Cuba and Iran are two that come to mind.

There are a couple of derelicts nearby at Chino Airport too. I'm sure the airport would be glad to get rid of the eyesores.

I talked to a couple of guys from South Africa a few years ago about replacements engines and stuff. They said that it is cheaper to just buy a whole airplane than it is to buy a new engine.

It will not be rebuilt (by the CAF anyway)...

The NTSB mentions the time between replacement of the fuel filters and cleaning of the carb, but doesn't say if the documentation said that they had been changed within that timeframe, only that they'd been changed on a given calendar date. Does anyone know if this was a "not changed per time" or just a "not changed in forever because the plane wasn't flying"?
