Hello fellow WIXers,

I was informed that I was going to be in Jacksonville for the weekend and wanted to know if you guys knew of any attraction's to reccomend I should try to make it to.

I don't know how far away from Jacksonville I can go ( I as in my family), I thought about Fantasy of Flight, mapquest said that is about 2 hr. and 55 min. from Jacksonville in general. Any museums or collections would be nice,

Thanks!

P.S. Here is a cool picture sent to me by a friend, but I don't have any info on it.

The pic is in Warren M. Boddie's book The Lockheed P-38 Lightning, page 184.
An F-5E, returning from a very successful mission, performed a "victory" roll at this ridiculously low altitude, and it was recorded by an AAF photographer.

From the pic, which ever way he is rolling, it sure looks like he ins't going to make it.

Regards,
Mike

There's a collection of Navy aircraft, including a PBY-5A, inside the main gate at NAS Jacksonville, on US 17 about 8-10 miles south of downtown.
May not be able to get on base due to tightened security.

Used to be some WW2 types at Herlong Airport, west of town on Normandy Blvd.

The Valiant Air Command is at the Titusville Airport (I think it's Titusville), about 2 hrs or so south on I-95.

The Fantasy of Flight at Polk City is worth the trip.

I can't think of much else around JAX.

Walt

It's a 2+ hour drive from JAX, but Don Brooks' operation with the Liberty Belle B-17, the Labrador lake B-17, and several other warbirds, is located in Douglas, GA.
