OK super sleuths, here's real mystery for you.
This is TBM sprayer N9594C owned by Holly Fletcher's Aero Flight at Troutdale, Oregon in the late 50s early 60s. It crashed into a lake in Idaho (Sawtooth Lake). Holly's family are friends and dove of the wreck which is in 40-50' of water.
Here's the mystery....there is no record of this airplane ever being on the civil register. One clue is I believe that it was surplused out of Canada.

Hi Mike,
From what I understand it made a water landing due to engine failure and is intact. The pilot just stepped out on the wing dipped his big toe into the water to check the water temp, jumped in and backstroked to shore. I don't believe they had a camera with them able to take photos during the dive.

"Sawtooth Lake is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes I have ever seen. The 173 acre 250 foot deep Sawtooth Lake is accessed via a 10 mile round trip trail."

Sawtooth lake is at 8400' elevation?

So, do they want to sell the salvage rights?

Betcha there's some nice rainbows in there!
I'm sure they'd sign off for someone who was serious
and sincere has they love aviation & warbirds. They
have a Stearman, C-170 and a aviation art gallery!

In case anyone was wondering, 53801 was not and ex-RCN Avenger.

Beautiful landscape, nice fishing and a sunken warbird; It just doesn't get much better than that.

I'll bet that lake is probably as deep as those mountains are tall. That would bode well for the plane's state of preservation, but the act of recovering it might be a little tricky!

When they dove on the airplane they said that it was in 40'-50' of water.
They defenitly didn't use a diving bell! The deepest portion is I believe about 200' or so.

What about ownership on this?

Is some insurance company going to knock on your door after you pay for the recovery of "their" property?
