Cool pictures, Jack!

Actually that’s an SNJ-4. Anybody know when the cowling went from red to the checkerboard?

Great pictures Jack, thanks for sharing.

A question, where does Skeets fly out of? I have heard that name a lot, and thought he was out of Camas (1W1) but maybe not... :?:

Skeets and his crew work out of Grove Field in Camas. They've quieted down lately with the death of Skeets's partner and best friend Jack Dickey and also with Skeets being about 85. His SNJ 7979C is a Pearson Air museum along with one of his 8 Stearmans. SNJ 5199V #9 is at Grove but will not be at Reno has he's given up racing.

Okay, I am not off my rocker then, good to know. Thanks for the information Jack. I knew I had heard of Skeets before, as I do my flight training out of Camas, but I have never had the pleasure of meeting him. I know his hangar though, his Stearmans are gorgeous!

I talked to Skeets this past April 1st. He came down for his brothers ( Fritz's) first flight ( Harvard 4 ). He said that he is not racing anymore. That's too bad.
But he is still going strong with his work on restoring more planes. He is a real fun guy.
Stephanie, if you get a chance, go over to his hanger and ask for him. I'm sure he will let you look at the planes and have a drink with him and the others.

Well, if it's the same Texan that Evergreen operated when they were in Marana, AZ then it has had the checkerboard cowl since at least the mid-1990's.
