'Bomber Crew' on History Channel International

Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:46 pm

FYI...

VCR Alert....The History Channel International is running the UK Series "Bomber Crew" on Saturday nights at 8:00 pm and again at Midnight. There are 4 episodes. The first was last week and episode 2 airs this Saturday 12/31 at 8PM.

The show follows along as 5 candidates, who are grandchildren of RAF heavy bomber crew members, as they are put thru a simulated wartime training program with the eventual goal to crew a B-17 on an actual "bombing" mission. Also, the top candidate goes on to pilot not only the B-17 but the AVRO Lancaster.

I watched the first episode last week and there is some excellent footage of the Harvard, Beech-18, the B-17 Sally B and CWH's Lanc. Highly recommended!

(PS: Anyone who is familiar with this show; Why did they have to use CWH's Lanc and not the BBMF's ??)

I saw it, too. This has been run before, so I've seen all 4. Very nice tribute to Bomber Command.

I laughed out loud when the host was explaining to them that they would all train and take part in a "real" mission in the B-17, and they all smiled, but when he said that one of them would go on further to fly in a Lancaster, they all went nuts! Kind of like the B-17 isn't a "real" bomber.

They're all from England and NZ, so I can understand how they feel.
