Warbird Information Exchange

As mentioned in the F-105 thread, there is an additional fake flightline at Lackland that has some additional jet warbirds, still serving as static training aids for police training. This training area is located on the northwest side of the base and appears to be used by the Navy Shore Patrol guys that also train in the USAF school.

First, an overall view looking south (as if from the highway). The chain-link fence here was more of a pain than with the F-105s, so this is the only overall shot I have.


Here is one of the Huns. Like the F-105s, these guys were well maintained with fresh paint and no missing parts or visible damage. You can just barely see the nose of the F-101 poking out from beside the exhaust area.



Not visible in the 1st photo is the F-101, which is directly opposite the other aircraft (off the left side of photo #1).



Last, here's the F-84 and the nose of the 102.

Hey ! One our 101s is there and in her correct 147th FIG markings too.
The 147th FIG 111FIS stood alert at Holloman, Houston, and New Orleans with the 101s from 1975 to about 1984 when they transitioned to F-4Cs. They flew the 102s prior to the 101s. ( Some of you may have heard of a certain guard pilot who did not make the jump to the 101s)

Back in the early 80's I was at an airshow in Beaumont Texas (I think) & the Texas 101 Vodoo boys were there, & thats the only time I ever seen one of those fly. I remember that the A/B put out a big a-s torch out the back. Cool! Like many other of the types that sit quiet now - I would love to see one fly again.

Fly Fast Make Noise!

I was at ICAS last week and a guy walked by on flightsuit day, I did a doubletake when I noticed he had a One-O-Wonder patch on. I haven't seen one of those for 25 years ! Turned out he was an RCAF guy and he hadn't seen the airplane in almost as long.

I hope those shore patrol and USAF guys apperciate the history they get to practice with!

The only Century Series I have ever seen fly was a one-o-wonder. Was with the canadian Af at the show in Hamilton back in the early 80's......think 81. Funny, the other day was on airliners.net and had seen a pic of our ride.............a AIR NORTH short 330.

Anyone know if the F-102 is the one that used to be in front of the Officer training School classroom building at the Medina annex?

I have a graduation photo in front of it somewhere....

Oh, dang it! I forgot about taking a look over at Medina when I was there!! Last time I looked (circa '02) all the gate guards/statics on Medina had been moved to a parking lot near the gate, presumably to be moved somewhere else.
