All -- I'm looking for this great old thesis that was done in the 1960's dealing with civilian experiences with high performance fighters. Mostly an accident analysis. Does anyone have a copy of this and if so could I trouble you to help me get a copy? Thanks much in advance. Jim Beasley

You probably have it already, but there was a good article in about 1968 or 1969 in Air Progress (probably written by Mike Dillon) called something like: "So You'd Like To Fly A Fighter Plane? - Or... Death in a Beautiful Package". I think the author referenced this paper you are looking for.

I'm at work and the magazine is at home. I've always wanted to see the P-39/P-63 write-ups mentioned in that work. If you find a copy can you send me scans of those?

I know for a fact that someone here has that, as there was a thread posted about it where someone had scanned either part of it or all of it here - I can't remember. FWIW, our WIXer Dudley Henriques was a civilian who flew Mustangs in the 60's and probably has a copy, or knows where to get one. I'm sure he'll be along shortly to comment on this.

The upside down P-51 is most likely N6345T

I'd guess the picture was taken after the 1968 wreck.....

I looked at it when it was getting rebuilt at Pioneer Aero in Jan 1996 in Chino.... Looked good then....

After the 1997 crash, there was probably not much left beyond the dataplate.... I assume its still in the Peters family.

Peters 51 was not the real 44-63507. Only the paperwork!

The Mustang in the photos is 44-63507.

Hey Jim...will send a Facebook message w my email...I have the study from the early 60s on civilian p51 accidents..

It's one of those things that once u start reading it you can't put it down...so of the private pilots that bought p51 s did absolutely incompetent things...

wow...read about N1451D in that file, the guy was flying a P-51 with his 3yo on his lap, wide and two kids in the rear fuselage!
