Jeff - I just thought you'd enjoy hearing that I got to fly an N3N today, and on floats, err... float, and I had A BLAST! A friend of mine bought one this summer and part way through it's ferry flight the #3 cylinder left (it bounced off the right hand tip float on it's way by!) The ferry pilot deadsticked it into a little, screwed up shaped lake surrounded by big trees and they had to drive a new engine out to it and change it in the bush. Somehow (still not quite sure how this happened) I got shanghaied into flying it out of the lake and ferrying it over to my shop to store it for the winter. Darkness shut us down at our fuel stop and we'll finish the trip tomorrow, but what a cool airplane!

(But it's still not a Stearman!)

Dan

Oh man! That's like finding a busload of cheerleaders without a chaperone. Some people have all the luck.

A month ago maybe, when it was still summer. But late October in Canada... it's more like a survival skills self-test! :)

Awesome post Dan!
I've had the good fortune to fly in an "N". On wheels, off of grass.
Smooth and rock solid. Like a big ol' Cadillac.
An experience I won't forget.
Do you have any photos of her? or your adventure?

Wixers like photos :D
