So, at the beginning of last month I created the Wikipedia page List of displayed Bell UH-1 Iroquois. My original source was a list from the website Warbirds and Airshows by David D. Jackson that is itself apparently from the U.S. Army TACOM. I reorganized the list so that it was in order according to serial number, then separated it into sections based on ownership and then posted the results on the article's talk page. Using that as a starting point, I have been attempting to add as many airframes to the list as I can. (I have also created an identical page for AH-1 Cobras and done the above for it as well.)

This is of course a monumental task that will probably never be fully completed, but I was hoping that you guys could add whatever Hueys you know about to the list. Based on a previous WIX thread, I know there is at least a tangential interest in the subject.

However, there are a couple requirements. First, the entry has to be referenced. Wikipedia is usually pretty strict about the types reliable sources, but due to the nature of this project I think the requirement can be relaxed a bit. Second, this list is only for static display Hueys. This is not necessarily my decision, but a consequence of the style guide the project that oversees the articles created.

As an aside, while I was doing this project I ended up looking into the history of a local Huey on a pole, painted as s/n 63-12972. However, there is apparently another Huey on display at the United States Army Aviation Museum painted with the same serial number. I e-mailed the museum for clarification and received no reply. I also contacted the local association who was much more helpful. They gave me some information that seems to confirm that their Huey is the actual 63-12972. However, I'm hoping to contact another member of their chapter that is even more well versed on their Huey and hopefully will be able to get me inside for confirmation from the actual data plate. In the meantime, however, I was wondering if anyone here knew anything more about the airframe on display at the USAAM.

A great idea, thanks for taking that on! :drink3:
There are a couple of other websites with similar interests that may help you fill in the list some more:

Preserved US military aircraft- http://www.coastcomp.com/av/pres/

Warbirds and airshows- http://www.warbirdsandairshows.com/gateguards.htm

My home state has a few of each- http://warmemorials.us/listing-002-municipalities.html

Hate to say it but there is or was a Cobra at the VFW in New Hartford NY.... They were repainting 3 at the former Griffis AFB in 2002 or so....

I know there is one Huey on a pole at a memorial park on I70 (?) in Utah or Colorado that I see when I stop and get gas coming home from Chino...

(and its not this one..... http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM5C ... e_Creek_CO)

I think there are a lot more out there than you have listed.... (not your fault they may not know where they are at...)

Send me your email and I'll look up the pictures of them...

I can't imagine who added the information on that specific Cobra to Aerial Visuals.

Yeah, I completely forgot about that. It was even mentioned at the top of the webpage I originally took it from.

I found quite a few serials of museum aircraft by doing a Google search of
"Serial number of UH-1 in the Bell Museum".

Walk of Memories, located at American Legion Post 201 in Alpharetta, GA.
Several memorials and pieces of equipment are also on display on the 13 acres at the American Legion post, including an M60 tank, UH-1 Huey helicopter (s/n TBD) and Navy gun from a World War II Liberty Ship.

Contact the American Legion Post 201 at (770) 475-9023.

EDIT: From Post 201 site: The UH-1 Huey helicopter was flown during the 1968 Tet Offensive in the Republic of Vietnam and its pilot awarded the Medal of Honor. A nearby plaque tells the story of its mission.

This Huey, during the 1966** Tet offensive in the Republic of Viet Nam, was piloted by
CWO Frederick E. Ferguson
Co-Piloted by 1st Lt. William H. Anderson "Buck"
Crew Chief SP/5 John Etzie Jr. "J.J"
Door Gunner Sp/4 James Coles

They heard a call for help from a downed aircraft with wounded soldiers. Without regard for their own personal safety they responded, flying through heavy rifle and mortar file. Although taking numerous hits to their Aircraft, they succeeded in extracting all five of the Soldiers saving their lives. CWO Ferguson was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his gallantry and initiative.

Type of Aircraft: (make/model): UH-1H Huey
Call Sign: 66-16923 "Piranha One-One"
Tail Number: (S/N): 6-16923

Construction:: original aircraft

**Copied text is incorrect (1966) Bronze plaque is correct--1968

More in Wisconsin:
There is an AH-1 (and I believe a UH-1) at Volk Field.
I saw them last year, sorry , no serials.

Except for the one near where I live, I'm not really in planning to contact any of these groups directly. This is all done through what I can find online.

It would be very helpful if you could post a link to the specific webpage you find these things on. I found the page you were talking about, but it took a little searching. Remember, some sort of reference is required for Wikipedia and pages like these are excellent for showing that there is indeed a Huey at that location. (However, they do not mention the exact serial number, so I have to add an additional reference for that.) Nevertheless, I appreciate the help.

What about it? I don't see it mentioned previously in this thread. Is it some sort of ongoing restoration project or something?

I am aware of all of the lists you have linked to so far, what I realize now is that I was hoping that people would include links to information on the individual airframes. I guess what I'm saying is that - while I appreciate the effort and don't want to turn anyone off - just having the information from those lists isn't all that helpful.

EDIT: Upon further thought, maybe I was a bit too harsh. The list was of some use, just not as much as I would have liked. After all, it is true that the more sources I have, the better I can cross-reference the information.

EDIT 2: I take back what I originally said; the list was of more use than I thought. I was able to use it as a reference for the Wikipedia article. (Although, I later realized the helicopters have individual pages when you click on the camera icon so I'm going to have to go back and fix them eventually.) I also would probably have forgotten about it without you reminding me.
