Duggy,

I can't say definitively, but the B-25 unit that was actively skip bombing the North Pacific (including the waters off Paramushiru) was the 77th Bomb Squadron.

From 1943-45 the unit was flying out of Alexi Point on the island of Attu.

At one point the unit was even attacking fishing boats and canning factories in the Kuriles to mess with the enemy's food supply.

Trying to figure out what's happening in the sequence-

What are the several splashes on the side of the boat closest to the camera? Look too big for strafing, or not?

Is the big disturbance under the B-25 in the last photo the bomb going off after missing the boat? Look like the bird going to fly into the splash. Did any skip-bombers down their own aircraft this way?

I was wondering the same thing. Theory.......I wonder if two or three planes were going over shooting and one dropping some type of charge or charges (the photo plane)....meanwhile the one we see flying off the deck is coming along strafing (the string is hitting under the photo plane out of camera view) and fly's right over the underwater explosion blowback (dropped by the photo plane). Likely a mistake by the pilot flying thru an explosion field that low. Probably had to clean some britches when they got back to the base.

I believe when they were training for the Dambuster Raids, that a plane drop a “bomb” and it hit the water and come back up and hit the tail, causing the plane to crash.

I think it damaged part of the tail but did not down the Lanc IIRC.

I know when the Ice Pilots were trying to reenact the Dambusters Raid, they were shown a video of a plane dropping a “bomb”, and it caused it to crash.

Third pic down upper left corner looks like stuff falling maybe a third airplanes brass from cannon fire maybe small bombs. Maybe a low bird high bird attack. High birds left jab jab low bird the right hook. Maybe two high birds from one unit low bird from another unit trying to see who get the kill. Maybe two high birds didn't know bout low bird till too late and low bird didn't know the high two till too late. But looks to me its three birds whatever the case.

Thanks Dan.

Staying with skip bombing a rather neat photo of an AT-11 doing skip bombing training over Lake Childress in Texas.

Two observations about the pic. One is you can see the "barrel" just in front of the target. It looks more like a bomb or mini torpedo. Second, note the "evil face" on the front of the target.

Dunno about skip bombing on water, but here's a video of an A-26 dropping a bouncing bomb which subsequently impacted the aircraft's tail section:
