Today in history the Doolittle Raiders took off from the USS Hornet to bomb the mainland Japan. They have since flew off into history as one of the most remembered raid of ww2.

Would love to know when that list was typed. At a glance we know that Lawson was #7 off the ship and Farrow was #16.

It's not that these are errors, they're historical curiosities. It may be that plans were changed in the spotting of planes on the deck or any number of other reasons. There is a famous photo of Farrow's tail sticking over the water while tied down and we also know he had an unfortunate incident with a sailor in his prop.

That's what makes historical research such a tough topic sometimes ... you find something like this with all sorts of provenance but it isn't quite accurate. Fascinating nonetheless!
