Had an opportunity to visit this museum for a quick tour. Obvisously I would highly recommend to anyone. The amount of history in this museum is overwhelming.

The Grumman Guardian is hella cool, too.

Kinda odd to see the F4U-4 in Marine markings in the USN museum, as USN operated a large number of them, too.

I love the expanded carrier deck complete with escort carrier island! Is this a reproduction or the real thing?

What's Pensacola NAS primary mission nowadays? Is it still primary flight training or has most of that moved to TX?

The island is a replica, based on the actual blueprints. CVLs and CVEs used the same island. This one is supposed to be a replica of Cabot CVL-28.

Pensacola remains the primary flight training site for US Navy, US Marine, US Coast Guard and several allied nations.

Advanced training is done at other bases in TX, Mississippi and elsewhere. Then the third stop for most is a fleet training squadron, co-located at a major base that has the type of aircraft that the aircrew has been slated for.

Happen to have snapped any pics of the B-25 converted to a PBJ?

They don't seem to have problems with it...their H-19 is in USCG colors as is the Goose, and the F3F is USMC as is the AH-1 Cobra.

Did USN ever operate Cobras?

Not that I know of...but I'd bet the Navy either tested them or had one on strength at their Test Pilot School...so there may be photos out there of one in USN colors. .

Unfortunately I didn't have time for a flightline tour. I believe the PBJ Mitchell is somewhere outside. Below is the only Cobra I recall seeing that day.

Great place indeed. Marine aviation goes nowhere without the Navy.

Agreed...job one at NNAM was LIGHT BULBS....I was six miles away from NMUSAF for nearly 40 years and it was gloomy....but I hear they just invested in a new supply of sockets and bulbs....
