It was a good idea, it just didn't work.

They must have had to word that carefully; if they'd said "We're canceling the seaplane event because there's too much water", everybody would have thought it was an April Fool gag.

The long and shallow approach to land problem makes sense but yes it is kind of funny to think about cancelling a seaplane event due to water!
