Does anyone have any updates/status on the restoration of the Memphis Belle? How much interior work remains to be done, are they near to applying exterior paint, etc.?

We were just there this weekend. She is looking amazing. A lot of focus is being paid on preservation over restoration wherever possible. They are equipping the interior. Paint possible late in the year

The last I heard, it will be another 2 years in restoration.

Sadly, I think the "boat sailed" decades ago on the preservation aspect. She was subject to years of vandalism and a tech school "restoration" in the 80's. I have to think that restoration is more the word for this aircraft. Still, I expect it to be stunning when it is completed...

No really. I mean it would have been great to see The Belle given the "Flak Bait" treatment, but that said, there is a very large amount of effort being spent on preservation over restoration. Combat repairs, original equipment, and other items are being preserved over restored. When she rolls out, you certainly are by no means going to be seeing a new build B-17. The metal you see, is all Belle. Same with much of her internal equipment.

Awesome. Thank you for the update. I can't wait to see her finished and on display...
