Thought I might post some stuff from "Nam".

A U.S. Navy Douglas A-1J Skyraider (BuNo 142031) from Attack Squadron 196 (VA-196) "Main Battery" in flight. VA-196 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 19 (CVW-19) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) for a deployment to the Western Pacific and Vietnam from 28 January to 21 November 1964. The A-1J 142031 was later shot down while in service with VA-145, CVW-14 ("NK-504"), on USS Ranger (CVA-61). On 1 February 1966 Lt(jg) Dieter Dengler was flying A-1J 142031 on his very first combat mission. After struck by ground fire, Dengler crash-landed near Ban Phathoung, Khammouan Province, Laos, was captured and imprisoned by the Pathet Lao. He escaped eight days later, but was recaptured. He escaped again on 30 June 1966 and was later rescued by a USAF Sikorsky HH-3E Jolly Green Giant helicopter. He returned to the squadron on 21 July 1966. Dengler was awarded the Navy Cross for his escape. -

A U.S. Navy McDonnell F-4B Phantom II of Fighter Squadron VF-111 Sundowners drops 227 kg Mk 82 bombs over Vietnam during 1971. VF-111 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 15 (CVW-15) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) for a deployment to Vietnam from 12 November 1971 to 17 July 1972.

Lt. Col. Icheal "Gene" Hambleton (Bat 21 Bravo), who was shot down on April 2, 1972 and evaded capture for 11 1/2 days behind enemy lines during the Vietnam War. He was finally rescued by Navy SEAL Thomas R. Norris and ARVN Petty Officer Third Class Nguyen Van Kiet. During the rescue operation, four aircraft were shot down resulting in the deaths of 11-15 airmen and the capture of two more. -

A U.S. Air Force De Havilland C-7B Caribou (s/n 62-4145) ready for take-off on 13 September 1970. This aircraft was assigned to the 458th Tactical Airlift Squadron, 458th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Cam Ranh Bay air base, South Vietnam. -

An unmarked North American T-28D Trojan (s/n 51-3463) in Southeast Asia. This aircraft was probalby transferred to Laos in 1964. It was an USAF aircraft maintained by Air America at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, but flown under the command of the USAF Attaché, Vientiane, Laos (AIRA). It was transferred to the Royal Laotian Air Force in February 1973, its eventual fate being unknown.

A USAF Douglas A-1J Skyraider (U.S. Navy BuNo 142016) of the 6th Special Operations Squadron over Vietnam. The 6th SOS operated from Pleiku and Da Nang air bases in 1968 and 1969. It was deactivated on 15 November 1969 and its aircraft were turned over to the South Vietnamese Air Force (VNAF) -

A U.S. Navy Vought F-8D Crusader (BuNo 147056) of Fighter Squadron VF-111 "Sundowners" fires a Zuni rocket over South Vietnam. VF-111 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 2 (CVW-2) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVA-41) for a deployment to Vietnam from 6 March to 23 November 1965. -

A U.S. Air Force Douglas A-1E Skyraider armed with six LAU-3 rocket launchers in Vietnam. The aircraft probably belonged to the 1st Air Commando Squadron, 14th Air Commando Wing, which operated from Nha Trang Air Base in 1966-1967 (tail code "EC"). -

Group photograph of U.S. Air Force Fast Forward Air Controllers ("Wolf FACs") of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing at Ubon Royal Thai AB in June 1968. Drawn from the four squadrons assigned to the wing, these pilots volunteered for the Fast FAC missions. The McDonnell F-4D Phantom II is from the 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron, and the squadron’s "Night Owl" symbol is just behind the air inlet. -
