Warbirds in North Georgia in 1990s (visible from I-75)

Thu Sep 25, 2014 8:12 am

Sorry if this has been discussed before- I did a search and couldn't find anything. Google is no help either.

For many years in the 1990s there were several warbirds in North Georgia visible from I-75 near Dalton. If I remember correctly, if you were travelling South they were on the left, across the interstate from a Mohawk carpet factory. I am pretty certain there was an F-8 Crusader there, as well as several large transport aircraft.

I regret not investigating further because by the 2000s they were gone.

Does anybody have any more information on these aircraft?

Thanks!

Just to double check, was the T-33 completely scrapped?
I didn't quite read that aspect in the original thread.
(Parts from the airframe are valuable.)
Thx,

i remember a large junk yard full of aircraft very near chicago, it had an a-7 corsair that i vividly remember among other warbirds, but couldn't stop due to rush hour & perpetual construction. i believe it was in 1993 just west of down town.
