A colleague recently suggested that a single place be designated to collect, catalog, store, and present to the public everything USAF Skyraider. I know that the B-26 Marauder folks have something along these lines at the Pima Air Museum. I think that the bonus of this idea is that, since the USAF stood down from A-1 operations in 1972, there is still time and greater chance of saving veteran's memories and memorabilia than we are now seeing for the aging WWII population.

Obviously something like this, given the specialty of topic may not draw wide support. It would require funds, a location, several folks to do the work, archive space, climate controlled & secure storage space, and the reasonable assurance that it would be a lasting entity; or at least a 100 year expectation. The NMUSAF or Smithsonian come to mind, however I'm concerned that they would be reluctant to devote sufficient resources to this one small slice of USAF history.

This is a fresh idea and I'm not in a position to chart the course, then again maybe I am. What I would like is to hear from those of you in the Museum (or similar) communities, those who have seen similar ideas succeed, or those who may have an idea on how to proceed.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

Dunno how I missed this post earlier (just found it looking for something else).

I like the idea and would help in whatever way I can. Good luck!
