XA2D-1 Now In the San Diego Area

If anyone is planning a trip to Pacific Fighters in Idaho, USA, to see the Douglas XA2D-1 Skyshark, you might want to change plans. The aircraft has been in Jim Slatterly's collection, located at Gillespie Field in El Cajon, CA, since mid 2013. One more to add to the list first posted by "Linerman" on 2/28/13.

When I worked for John I took an old T-28 canopy glass and cut and heated it to fit the canopy frame.
Also a Dogloo was used at one point for the forward spinner cone.
Dunno if these engineering marvels are still apart of this fine machine.

Definately static at this point but Mr. Slatterly has resources and the drive to restore things to flying conditions may play out for the Skyshark.

Ok, thanks. I know he's building a "flying" museum. Figures I had to move from San Diego and he shows up out at Gillespie! lol

She's been displayed at the Wings Over Gillespie Airshow for the past two years so her being here is hardly a secret

. And given the history of the type I doubt she'll ever see the sky again.

That's a great little airshow. I remember going around 2000 and seeing the flying wing from Chino flying around. Got to ride in a C-47 D Day veteran for $30 and a T-6 for $70

Wow. Even though its a long shot it'd be amazing to see a Skyshark fly. Doesn't he already have an AD-5? If he could somehow acquire the XBT2D from the Soplata collection he'd have bookends of Skyraider development. Boy I can dream can't I? :lol:

Come on now, name one aviation enthusiast who wouldn't give their first born for the privilege of having the opportunity to operate and maintain an aircraft with that wonder of postwar engine technology, the Allison T-40.
