Indeed. RIP.

As I was reading his biography, I kept saying to myself, "things couldn't possibly get any worse"...and then they did. That he survived everything from his ne'er-do-well youth to his captivity by the Japanese to his battle with alcoholism only to find salvation through God's grace is an amazing testament.

RIP sir; you've earned it many times over.
Too bad he didn't live to be Grand Marshal in the Rose Parade; hopefully someone close to him could do it in his honor (relatives or the author of the book?).
Edit: looks like that will happen, but of course details are being arranged:

I knew when they announced that he would be Grand Marshall of the Rose Parade that he probably wouldn't make it to Jan 2015. Sorta jinxed it. Be interesting to see the movie version of his life. He was a religious man the second half of his life. It will be interesting to see if the movie gives God any credits. He certainly did.

Read the book and then realised that I learned to fly at the AP named for him.
