This past weekend saw the Canadian Warplane Heritage host their Sky Fest weekend. One of the highlights was the temporary transformation of their Lancaster into VR R another 419 Squadron ship. Named Ropey and carrying 66 bombing mission symbols it was nice to see the Lanc with a bit of a different look.

My Dad and I were there as well. We were a little disappointed with Saturday, but Sunday more than made up for it. The "R for Ropey" markings on the Lancaster were sharp! The Mosquito passes Sunday were great and the flying in general was much better and closer to the museum, rather than just high passes as the aircraft entered the landing pattern. We also went up in the Beech 18, which was a great experience and a great value for the money! It was also our first visit to the museum, and we came away very impressed.

I'm not a photog, so I'll let those types provide the pics... Nice shots of the Lanc, Jeff!

Looks good. Second pic with the Mossie taxiing behind really sums it up.

My favorite 4 engine warbird- thanks for posting.

What is the reference for R Ropey?

I love the idea of changing up the markings from time to time. It helps to tell lots of different stories and keeps the interest fresh. Ropey looks fantastic!

I dearly hope, that one day in the not too distant future, FM213 gets painted up as KB895 "Wee Lady Orchid".

This would be a most appropriate choice because the centre section of FM213 is, in fact, from KB895! A 35 mission combat veteran! How cool is that?

Glad to hear Sunday was better. I bought some VIP tickets for the Saturday show and brought my parents and while the venue and food were great we all came away a little disappointed with the aircraft portion. I understand it wasn't a full blown traditional airshow but it was still disappointing to have the Mosquito take-off and fly over once while forming up and return 30 minutes later and directly land with no fly pasts. Glad you guys enjoyed your first visit to the CWH!
