In response to some questions on the Duxford thread, here is what we Plan for the 2016 season:

For fighters we will fly the P-40 Kittyhawk, the Mustang, and the Corsair. (The Spit XVI and the Hurri IV are being prepared for sale, to support the restorations of our Spit IX and Hurri XII. The Sabre needs NDT inspections.)

The Lysander has a busy program, sponsored by The Lysander Fund. It will appear at many events in southern Ontario and Quebec. (Similar to last year's VERY successful flying season.) It may even go to Oshkosh, although this has not been confirmed.

The Swordfish will fly in 2017 -- engine repairs continue to delay it's return to flight.

The Yellow Wings aircraft will have another year of giving rides to young people at Air Cadet camps, similar to previous years. This will involve the Finch, Harvard, Cornell and Chipmunk. It is a rather unsung program, but tremendously successful.

YOU CAN RIDE IN ANY AIRCRAFT THAT HAS 2 SEATS!!!

YOU CAN ARRANGE TO DO THIS IN FORMATION WITH ANOTHER OF THESE AIRCRAFT!!!

And the low value of the Canadian dollar should make this a busy season!

It is possible, with enough lead time, to arrange formation Ride flights with aircraft like the Lancaster -- available nowhere else in the world!

Sad to hear the Spitfire and Hurricane are going to be sold. I was kind of hoping to see three Spitfires and two Hurricanes coming out of Gatineau. Hopefully a certain museum fairly close by will acquire both fighters.

It's due to hangar space as much as anything. And Mike Potter would in general rather have a fleet of interesting types, rather than concentrate on any one.

As for our neighbors buying them, anything's possible, but there will be no deals based on sentimentality. Fair market value.

My other thought on this idea would be some sort of loan / lease agreement since they have a good amount of space. Just a thought.

No, there are all the other restorations happening, and it's a straightforward business decision.

It is entirely selfish on my part but, having grown up around SL721, I would love to see her back in my neighborhood and back in the blue paint scheme. What a beauty she was and my all time favorite Spit.

Any talk of trying to do Geneseo this year Dave? It didn't work out last year I know, but...if it can be worked out with the Feds for this year, I'm sure you would get quite a few customers there.

Good idea! I should check into whether the FAA has changed anything in the Ride equation. In Canada there were big changes last year.

But the other kicker is insurance costs. Premiums are much higher in the States due to the traditionally higher payouts there.

And that's a lovely photo by the way!

SL 721 has always been a jewel -- one of the most authentic Spitfires flying in the world today.

Another opportunity Dave, closer to home, might be the Quinte International Air Show. June 25-26 at CFB Trenton. Should be a great turnout with the Snowbirds, CF-18 Demo and the first eastern Canada visit of the F-22 Raptor Demo team.

Yes, we'll be there with the Corsair and the P-40, and probably the Lysander.

The Spitfire and the Hurricane are not going to be flown this year. (Until our new Spit IX that is!)

But they certainly have!

Here's a nice video of a Nov 11 flight a few years ago.

Great! I'll be there in the photo pit. Give us a wave when you taxi by. I'll also be at Geneseo and WWII Weekend in Reading, PA.

You want to talk about a ride program! WWII Weekend is, by far, the best organized with the most available types I've ever seen. Greats for us photogs too, as there are aircraft flying all day long...and then they put on a show.

Andrew,

Not as far as I know. It may be possible. It's undergoing its Annual Inspection right now. But you can ascend the rigging and take the seat -- highest one in the hangar!
