I will have you know that WIXMOD-Charlie's avatar is based in sound historical research, as a recent sensational find in an upstairs men's room at the Bundesarchiv has confirmed for certain the existence of a long-rumored Luftwaffe fighter squadron, JG 3.14. This unit, also known as the "Pfotegeschwader", only existed for a brief time in the desperate summer of 1944. Commanded by Major Uwe Bumschniffer, JG 3.14 was established to test a theory floated by the CO of a Stalag Luft camp, based on intelligence gleaned from the prisoners under his command. The CO, Oberst Klink, sent his proposal via his adjutant Fw. Schulz to a Jagdfliegerschule nearby, and the group was sufficiently intrigued to form a detachment to test the idea.

Klink proposed to have the training aircraft decorated in particularly bright and gaudy schemes which would (theoretically) serve as a deterrent to the roving American and British "Jabos" who were ruthlessly hacking every German aircraft from the sky; the theory being that the Allied airmen might be more inclined to leave the brightly painted aircraft alone, as they would signify the presence of a brand new pilot. Unfortunately, the plan depended heavily upon the good graces of the Allied pilots, but they were unaware of this attempted change in direction and simply had a field day among the inexperienced Jagdflieger, downing the entire squadron in a matter of minutes. Threats of banishment to Siberia thenceforth followed with depressing regularity for the poor Oberst and his unwitting adjutant, who soon resolved to avoid any further unwanted attention by answering any question with "I know nothing."

The example in WIXMOD-Charlie's avatar is the sole known example of a test scheme worn by JG 3.14, and is believed to have been flown by Major Bumschniffer himself on that tragic mission of 31 June, 1944.

Thus endeth the history lesson.

Okay,
1) Didn't the WHittington Bros. restore an Me-109/ buchon in purple back in the late 1970's ?

2) IF the german's captured some American desert tan paint and IF they painted their aircraft with it and IF that aircraft was used in Africa, wouldn't it fade to pink, ala Sue Parrish's documented pink P-40 paint scheme?

Sorry Lynn but I just don't buy your story .... I really think you just made all that up and I wasn't born yesterday you know, 50 years ago actually so I've had at least fifty years to practice my comedic skills (and by the looks of this thread I'll need last least another fifty years to become funny).

As for that nauseating 109 scheme, at least you could have added the sharks mouth.
