I stopped by the World War II museum in New Orleans a few weeks ago. An amazing place, great museum and i got to check a few planes off my I want to see list. But I was looking at a website tonight that says the Avenger is a replica. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, it is very convincing as a real aircraft. Also, if it its a replica how was it built and what is it made of? But if its the real deal does anyone know the identity?

I am not sure, but I think the replica Avenger that had been in display has been removed a and either a better replica or a real one is now on display in the new building. Replica had a torpedo coming out of a "closed" bomb bay.

My notes just from the web and magazines, say it is 69374 ex N9650C that was in 2011 a second TBM in storage at the USS Midway and in 2012 went to New Orleans.

Right, in that hall I do believe, the TBM is real, B-17 is real, 25 is real, SBD is real, Corsair is real-ish, and the P-51 is a replica.

Correct- the replica that was there was a "50 footer". Looked OK from 50 feet, but as you got closer it was quite clear it was not the real deal. Maybe a 100 footer....
