BIG Day on the world stage here at Omaka yesterday with the Royal visit. A little drizzle didn't dampen spirits. Prince William seemed to be having a blast, wanting to fire up the Sopwith Pup and to go for a fly in the Anson. Of course he is a big aviation fan and flies the Sea King on Search & Rescue.

Kate ..one word "WOW!"

A nice bit of publicity for the Museum Dave. Shame about the weather though, William must have thought he was back in Wales! He is now an ex Sea King pilot though, having left the RAF about 6 months ago.

Mike

Thanks, didn't know he had left the RAF

Yes they said it reminds them of home, of course the month previous we were almost in drought conditions....Murphy's Law.

At least it wasn't cold and the drizzle was light. Graham offered him a seat in the Triplane - " I'm not siting in a German plane - but I will sit in that one" (the Sopwith).

He spent quite a bit of time (relatively) in the Anson cockpit and asked Bill about going for a fly - course that wasn't going to happen sadly. You get the feeling he would rather ditch all the 'protocol' BS and spend the afternoon mucking about with the aircraft.

Anyway- best get back to the mag, things to do stacking up as per usual - 'yours' in that pile somewhere.

I heard thru the grapevine that the Prince is the real deal....even got his hands dirty a few times working on the BBMF Lanc was a rumor...

Maybe that's why he hung around at his wedding w Kate out on the Palace balcony watching the Lanc make one more pass while the rest of the family was already inside gobbling down the eats.....

Didn't object to taking a Herc for the hop over Cook Straight from Wellington either (only 50-odd miles). I saw comment about Kate's ponytail, and thought 'easy to put ear protectors over'.

Great to hear about the mainstream media coverage.

Indeed, however the low cloud base saw our CAP of eight Fokker Triplanes stay in the shed

Hi DaveM2...great pic! Mind if I post it to share on my Facebook? I think it would also make for a great WIX caption contest...

Good luck with the show down there! Hope to make there one day during my travels....

No problem, share away.

Caption contest- Yes, looks a bit like Kate has called his bluff after him telling her he is a pilot, and has asked him to take the Pup for a fly

A great caption content entry!! Thanks for the referral to post...

I was thinking of something like "Is it really time I need to go meet the PM of NZ? I wanted to get in some Pup logbook entries!"

Good luck w the event!
