I was wondering what is the background on the PBY there and if it's abandoned or still owned (by who) and if there are any future plans for it?

The last I heard, it was for sale by, (I think) the son of the deceased owner.

The name of the town is Villavicencio. The airport, named Aeropuerto Vanguardia, is just northeast of town. Look it up on Google images. The PBY is clearly visible as are many other vintage aircraft including nine DC-3 types, two four-engined types (maybe big Dougs?), and possibly a yellow AN-2, plus various DC-3 remains strewn about. It might be fun to explore the airport and shoot pics of all of those relics, except for the high likelihood of being arrested by the authorities or being shot by the drug cartels.

I believe this is the one that is being sold by the son of the now deceased owner. There are quite a bit of spares included as well. The price has dropped considerably, but the cost of making it flightworthy to be ferried, or dismantling it for shipping is the main hurdle. There was a movement to round up a partnership to bring the plane to the U.S. and restore it, but I don't know how much progress there has been in that department.

Is this the same family that had the Puerto Rico PBY that was sold on Ebay and now going to Australia....or already there? I know they had at least two PBY's. One in PR and another down south.

Where is the ad or notice of this particular PBY being sold?

Yes it is. I am not aware of any current advertising although it has appeared locally in the past.

Thanks Dave. That maybe the other "possible" former USCG PBY?? Gotta confirm those data plates. John

I'm going back town to Colombia with the wife so I'd like to get over there and look around if possible. I knew I wasn't accurate with the spelling, I guess it's the midnight to 6am sim sessions I've been doing lately.

I was looking for some possible Google Earth pics that PBY. Haven't found anything yet. Just this plane.

Is there some sort of authority for the airport? I think it's a cool airport, with the PBY DC-3s and An-2s...

Pshhh a good wash and wax and she'll be ready to fly. Looks like she has a little friend parked behind her Cessna of some kind.

I don't know myself....someone else may though.

Been talking offline with some smart folks who are very knowledgeable on these things. The thought is the various plates on it make it suspect as to the authenticity of it being what it says it is (BUNO 34012). It is believed this PBY was the sister aircraft (ownership-wise) to the one that recently was EBayed and went to Australia. Any attempt to ferry this aircraft back into the U.S. would need to (1) be fully investigated to confirm one can get the proper ferry permit and then (2) trying to get it type certificated in the U.S. due to the loose paper trail and mods performed on it. As a museum piece...maybe. As a flyer....perform due diligence.
