Where did this plane go? I recall a few years ago they decided it no longer fit into their collection.

Which I just never understood. How doesn't it fit? "Here's a C-47 and C-46, American WWII cargo aircraft, and heres the German equivalent" Besides, how many American ground attack aircraft strafed JU-52s? They have an FW-190, BF-109, Storch, ME-262, ME-163, JU-88. Why wouldn't a Ju-52 fit? Is it literally a size issue to try and fit it into the WWII hangar?

could not agree more. something shady! as someone who lives not far from dayton, i do get a bit spoiled by all the cool planes just up north a bit. i also get real ticked off when favorites i've been visiting since childhood are GONE! i become very territorial about it all. like, the douglas world cruiser?? i was flabbergasted to not see that one on my last visits. and the real peashooter! i sat in the cockpit of shoo shoo shoo baby and it will be leaving if it hasn't already. sometimes it takes me a few visits before i realize i didn't see a favorite. easy to miss one, when you're drunk on all the visuals. the "Ju52" simply disgusts me! i want it there. i've come to expect it. i would have to suspect it is simply a money issue. it was viewed as a disposable asset. it's happening everywhere, a fire sale caused by a bad economy? if it went for a trade i want something really good in return.

It is in the storage building until a further date where some restoration can be done and the WWII Gallery extended a bit.

I know this is a couple/3 years down the road but when the new building is open, there will be plenty of room where the presidential aircraft and the R & D planes are displayed now. How about placing planes like the Casa 352, the C-39, the C-60 Lodestar, the YC-125B Raider (others?) in there? The C-60 and the YC-125 would be out of the elements and perhaps the public would be allowed to view these aircaft like they do the presidential aircraft now. Just a thought.

That would be kind of coming full circle. I remember when I first started visiting the museum back in the late 70s the Casa, C-39, C-60 and others "lived" over in the Annex.

Will the Museum still have use of those hangars once the Presidential and R&D collections take up residence on the main campus, or will those hangars revert back to base control?

Apropos of nothing, here are a couple of shots I managed to get of the cockpit of the 352 a few years ago...

I thought it was offered for sale some time ago devoid of any data plate in order to make it impossible to be legally returned to flying status?

It was John, but there were so many strings I don't think anyone bid ! They want your money, but then they want to tell you how you can use your new purchase !

Can you imagine how this would go over in the real world ? " We'd like to sell you a new truck, cash is great ! Oh, by the way, we'll never give you a title so that you'll actually own it and you can only park it in your driveway !"
