Warbird Information Exchange

Seems like a year or three ago on this forum there was some discussion or mention of airplane ringtones for one's cell phone. I plan on a phone upgrade sometime soon and I'd like a unique ringtone that doesn't make half the people in earshot grab their phones.
Anybody got anything on this? I'd like a big short-stack radial making a fast low pass. Something deep toned and loud.

I found a site that has some airplane ringtones. It called Phone zoo, http://www.phonezoo.com/home.do
The website doesn't charge a monthly fee, the only fee associated with the ringtones is what your cell phone company charges for a text or a multi media text.

Thanks airtj. That site has a good one of a low flyby of what sounds like a big single row. No doubt its a round engine. Next thing is to check with my service provider on any applicable charges from them.

I made a ringtone for my iphone with Merlin-equiped airplane making a low pass, as well as a Battle of Britain, 633 Squadron. I'll be making a B-29 ringtone soon. If you want I can email them to you when my internet will get turned back on, but I'll be away for the next 3 weeks or so.

You could always use your phone to record some sounds from the "Round Sounds" cd and then set it as your ringtone.

Funny side story - years and years ago I had to pick up my parents at the Ft Lauderdale airport. I had a new ride with a premium sound sytem and just happened to have the Round Sounds cd in the car. I prepped the CD track and loud volume before they got in the car, and had it waiting for the right moment. Just as we were on the road passing off the east end of the runway I said "hey a Bearcat just took off", then proceeded to turn the "music" on. My dad (pilot and airplane nut like me) had his head cranked all over scanning the sky for the mysterious airplane that just made the whole car rumble and shake! That was a good laugh.

So when you are at the airport, how do you know if your phone is ringing?

BDK, if I'm at the airport, I'm interested in other things besides my phone phonezoo.com has one that sounds like a Lycoming N3N with a bad plug. Pretty distinctive. I'd really like a Corsair or F6F, big engine with short open LOUD stacks. Or a B-25 low enough to blow my hat off.

i made one of the prowler starting up for my iphone off a video i shot. it sounds pretty good and it can be pretty loud. as for hearing the plane ringtones at airports is an easy one to answer... put it on vibrate.

I downloaded "radial engine flyover" from phonezoo.com. I could not figure out the instructions, even after asking for a clarification. I just don't understand this stuff. I conceded to my daughter in law to sign on to facebook if she'd download it.
The first time I got woken up by it, I hit the ceiling! And the other day I was sitting at my desk reading email and it went off and scared the tar out of me again! Thanks for the help guys. Gotta love it.

That sound file is one I created from a VHS video I shot in about 1992 or so. It's Delmar Benjamin's Gee Bee R2 replica, flying at Pearson Airpark in Vancouver, Washington. The occasion was the annual Independence Day (July 4th) celebration; I was loading mortars for the fireworks display about 100 feet to the side of the runway when I heard/saw the Gee Bee. I've been following the resulting sound file ever since I posted it on my webpage sometime a year or two later. Enjoy...

I remember practically falling over when I saw that airplane, because at the time I was unaware that anyone had even considered building a replica; I had just assumed the Gee Bees were permanently consigned to the aviation scrap heap. I still have that VHS tape, maybe it's time to remaster the video as well...
