Nord Atlas folks:

Apprx C. 1970s there was a Nordatlas poss model 2501(profile similar to a C-119) seen at the FAS military side of Ilopango. Does anyone has any info/data or pics of this elusive sample or details of its final destination?? Tks

I'd venture a guess that the Nord Atlas was ex-Israeli Air Force, as they operated them until the arrival of the C-130 (called "Hippos" in IAF parlance). The IAF sold off a fair amount of their old inventory to Cental/South American countries: A-4s to Argentina, modified Super Mysteres to Guatemala (IIRC -- the Super Mysteres were re-engined with J-79s or J-52s...can't remember!), etc.

Tks! Poss Israeli or French sample. It had a very brief service life in the FAS inventory!! Series FAS 1XX for now!

As far as I know, there was no military operator of the Nord N.2501 Noratlas in South America. But some ex German Air Force Noratlas found their way to Ecuador and flew with civil registration. Following Registrations are known by me:
HC-AXF, HC-AXG, HC-AXK, HC-BDN, HC-BDO, HC-BIE, HC-BPU, HC-CDB, HC-CDI, HC-CEA.

HC-BPU later was registered as HI-611CA and I saw them at San Juan during my visit there in the early nineties.

Tks for the dta & pics!! That's what we are trying to find out...how did the FAS sample got to Ilopango?? It appears only at the boneyard late 1960's.
