My good friend Huw recently wrote this article on P-51D Mustang 'Marinell' and the 339th Fighter Group, I thought it might be of interest...

Marinell's is quite a sad story, and one which has interested me for some time. I guess it'll always be one of those things where the only people who really know what happened are no longer with us, and take the personal, intimate secrets of their last moments to the grave. It's great that Maurice Hammond and his team continue to operate the aircraft in the UK; for my money, it's one of the finest 'Stangs out there, an absolutely beautiful machine.

Hope there's something of interest here!

Fantastic article, always glad to see the 339th get such positive press. I just wish the owners of Marinell would use the correct shade of Insignia Blue on the national insignia- that bright Roundel Blue is just jarring and really throws off the look of the aircraft. Nitpicky, I know, but if you're going to go to the lengths to find and use the correct equipment in the restoration, getting the right shade of paint on the stars and bars would seem to be a logical next step. :)

Thanks for posting this- lovely shots!

Lynn
