Warbird Information Exchange

On June 26, 1948 was the beginning of the Berlin Airlift, one of the great logistical operations in history. Today, sixty-five years ago, was a celebration held at the Berlin Airlift Memorial in Germany at Frankfurt Airport, the former Rhein-Main Air Base. Special guest was the famous Candy Bomber pilot Gail Halvorsen. I was there and meet him.

What always amazed me about the Airlift was that only three short years before, American planes were winging their way to Berlin to destroy the city, and now the planes were flying to Berlin to save the city.
