I'm not sure if I remember the story correctly or not but this is what I think I read. The USAF had several (maybe a few) incomplete airframes that they spliced together to create one for display. Then in Gub-ment wisdom scrapped the remaining pieces.

Anyone know where those airframes came from? Did any come from crash sites around the country (lets say eastern TN?). I ask because I have a lead on an AT-9 crash site and before I start spending money to try and find it I want to make sure it was not removed by the air force.
