Does anyone have a copy of the stress analysis of the p-51 engine mount?

Boeing probably does, but they won't let you see it. Same for the T-6.

Your best bet would be to analyze an existing mount. You could easily do a finite element analysis (FEM/FEA) far superior to the original hand stress analysis.

Why do you ask?

There is a stress analysis done on the whole A/C IIRC.
I believe it is avail with the microfilm of blueprints.
Dunno if it has enough info on the engine mount to help.

I am looking for the loads to apply to the FEM. anybody have the loads? I know I could derive them from the FAR's, but would prefer to use the N/A loads if possible.

The polar moment of inertia for the prop must be a big factor. The other question is how much the stiffness of the engine contributes to that of the mount, especially laterally.

Hamilton Standard (now Hamilton Sundstrand) may be able to look up the prop data you need. Avia is still making the blades under license (http://www.aviapropeller.com/mus_6547blade.htm) and may have data as well.

Other than that, you might want to send Rich a fruit basket for Father's Day and ask him nicely if he could look at the microfilm.
