Always loved the 111. If you've never walked up close to one, it's a big airplane. I remember my first experience was at Reese AFB, one diverted in with a mechanical problem and was placed in the T-38 hangar next to my squadron. The T-38 is a toy compared to the Vark. I don't have the tire size handy, but the main tires on a 111 are nearly the size of the main tires on a C-130, meaning you walk up and a 5'8" guy like myself meets the top of the tire just below the shoulder. The T-38 tire, you squat down to look at, like a kid's bicycle.
Great airplane, awesome capabilities. And very impressed with how the RAAF seems to have ensured each of its display planes left service looking sharp and ready for display. The US DoD rarely, if ever, does the same.
