This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

...but does it fly?

I think it's kind of hideous (especially the paint job). After looking at the pictures of the structure and workmanship, you wouldn't get me in it.

Looks like it would be at home in the Disney movie "Planes". I've definitely seen smaller-scale replicas that are far more attractive than this one. They might get more traction calling it and painting it like small-scale C-82.

Have you seen this 2/3rds scale P-38, based in San Angelo, TX? I have and it is really nice. No comment on the above project.

I would just wonder that if you're going to spend all that time designing and building a replica, why wouldn't you at least try to get it to more closely resemble the plane you're replicating? Basically, anything with twin engines and twin booms MUST be a P-38?
I remember seeing a twin boom / twin engine plane fly overhead when I was kid and told my Dad I saw a P-38. He told me it is was more likely I saw a Flying Boxcar instead...and he was right.

By chance, would any of you crabbys dissing this also be among those who couldn't get enough of the bare metal 3/4 P-38 @ SUN-N-FUN a few years ago?

Not me. That plane is beautiful and is a textbook example of what a scale replica should be. It looks like a P-38...just smaller.
Another good example would be the "Tadpole Clipper", a 3/8ths scale version of the PBM. Of course, it was built as a test bed for its "big brother" and not as a small scale replica of an extant type.
