In all fairness to him there are three threads open at present, and as far as I can tell none have this shot of the machine air to air. All I've seen are the take off shots and some YT video. And most of the pics (other than JDK's) as far as I can tell have been links as well. So why pick on him??

Nice shot. The less than CAVU weather really sets off the grey paint scheme nicely and gives it a period feel.

Few things in the vintage aeroplane movement are more satisfying than seeing a significant type return from extinction, flying-wise. We who get our kicks from that sort of thing have been very fortunate in recent years.

CH2Tdriver, it's just a little weird, that's all... this is like the 4th or 5th time I've posted something over at Hyperscale, he then grabs the link and posts it over here. Why not just double check here to see if the pic's been posted, or give me a short while to cross-post it myself? Like I said, just a little weird- nothing more than that.

The thing I love most about this aircraft is that it is, for all intents and purposes, a BRAND NEW Mosquito- we now have the tooling, technology, and training to begin building more. Glyn has laid the groundwork for returning multiple Mossies to the skies, for which we should be eternally thankful.

Aw cmon Lynn, Don't you want to give us WIXer's the exclusive?! After all those modellers are only probably arguing over the correct shade of ocean gray right now rather than celebrate like we are. (I'm into models too.)

And yes I agree about the tooling and technology. Whose on deck? T.III TV959 perhaps???

I was just flipping through on old Air Classics from 1988 which happened to have an article on the Breckenridge gathering that year. One of the participants was the then newly imported RS712 belonging to Kermit Weeks. Here is the caption from one of the Mossie photos in the article:

"There are currently only two Mosquitos still flying, Kermit's and the example owned by British Aerospace. There is some talk of getting one or two more into the air with extensive restoration but the Mosquito is such a complicated aircraft that there is little chance this will happen."

It may have taken 24 years but I'm glad to say they were proven wrong. (Even though the flyable population is now down to just this one, for now.)

And to think that if this was 1989 we the unwashed masses would not find out about the Mossies first flight until sometime in late November when the December issue came out! Now with the web we not only have news but photos within hours of the flight.
