The Vietnam Veterans Museum in Victoria is please to let others know that they have been allocated and are in the process of acquiring a very rare A-1D Skyraider for their growing museum collection. This type of aircraft has never been displayed before in Australia.

The aircraft is according to President Gary Parker a ex French / ex Goa Air Force .....which was acquired from Singapore somehow. There is interestingly no BuNO on the airframe to track its history at present. No A-1D served in Vietnam with USAF or US Navy but the is very similar to the A-1E/G/H/J they were used in combat.

The other already known movement is of an equally rare A-6E Intruder which is unusual as none so far have been allowed outside US for museum displays (that im aware of) and this would be a first if so. The aircraft is a E model BuNo 160998 and has been allocated to the museum with logistics and funding to be worked through before it lands.

The RF-4C Phantom project is still been worked on but it is unresolved at this time.
They also lost a chance to acquire a A-4 Skyhawk.

We will keep you updated as the museum progresses with their allocated airframes.

Other equally interesting warbirds are expecting to arrive in Australia at some point i am told but at this time we all have to wait and see what the owners do with their exotic projects and ...when they want to release the information publicly.
Phil

A correction issued by the Museum - "The Skyraider we acquired through the South African Air Force Museum is ex Gabon - West Africa not ex Goa"

Sounds to me like it may be 127894, ex N92072. Not 100% sure.
