On the NASM's Blog, in July, was this interesting item regarding the Horten H-9 V3 jet:

Thank you for the info, I wasn't aware it had degraded to such a fragile state, sounds like moving it would be equal to transporting hummingbird eggs in a brick truck.

It is indeed quite a process to move the 229. I've been talking with the NASM crew about this project, as I'm aiming to do an internship next year with it. They anticipate that it should be completely transferred to the new resto. facility by Summer '13, if all goes well.

Some of the pictures I have seen over the years show wood that has rotted completely away. The corrosion areas seem to primarily be the ones exposed to the engine heat as one would expect.

I thought that it was never completed before being captured, so surely engine heat would not have been a factor?

I'd be nice if they restored it back to its civilian scheme, looked better that way

This beauty was the brain fever of a William Horton from California not the German Hortons. Hidden under the batmobile is a plain old CESSNA T-50 BAMBOO BOMBER. The wings were supposed to extend for take off/landings and retract for speed in flight. Mr. Horton was involved with H.R. Hughes in developing the idea but had a falling out over Howard demanding he get credit for all the mods. I've always wondered why this didn't turn up as some studios prop dept aquisition 'HOLY 755 JAKES BATMAN!'
